Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity`s Never Far Away: Essex Launch

NFA charityDate of event: 29th January 2019 at 6.30pm- 8.30pm
Venue: Cedd`s Hall, Chelmsford Cathedral, CM1 1EH (a few minutes
walk from Chelmsford train station and there are car parks located
nearby)

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH) will be launching its
Never Far Away: Essex Appeal on 29th January in Chelmsford. This
exciting new appeal aims to fund patient and family accommodation at
GOSH, helping to keep families from Essex and across the UK together
at often difficult times.

More than 53% of the children treated at GOSH come from outside
London. Because the care they receive is so specialist, some need to
stay for several months. Having a child in hospital is stressful
enough without the added pressure of paying for hotels or train fares.
So, we want to make sure that parents and carers can stay in nearby
accommodation free of charge.

Join us at Cedd`s Hall, Chelmsford Cathedral on Tuesday 29th January
at 6.30pm to hear more about the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital
and how you and your community can get involved with Never Far Away:
Essex.

Chelmsford Beer Festival Celebrates 40th Year

Beer and Cider Festival Celebrating 40th Anniversary in Style

Chelmsford beer festival facebook page

From Tuesday 7th until Saturday the 11th of July, Chelmsford Summer Beer and Cider Festival will be celebrating it’s 40th year. Admiral’s Park will play host to Essex’s biggest beer garden for a Ruby Anniversary not to be missed.

Something for everyone

Whether you’re a beer and cider enthusiast or just looking for a fun day or evening out, with a wide range of food, drink and entertainment it will be sure to cater for everyone.

The festival will be open in the day time to families and children accompanied by adults; the evenings will be for adults only to come down and enjoy some music and have a few drinks.

Saturday will be a family day, which will be offering children’s entertainment so it will be the perfect day out for you and your loved ones.

The festival boasts a massive selection of over 300 real ales, 80 real ciders, perries, pyders, as well as a range of international beers and local wines. With such a large variety of drinks there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.

The wide selection of food available will be perfect to keep you going well into the evening for some music and entertainment. Be sure to check out the full list of beers and ciders, as well as some more information on the brewery bars involved with this year’s event.

Food!

There is a huge selection of food on offer, including jacket potatoes, burgers, giant hotdogs, curry, pasties, fish and chip, fresh doughnuts and bar snacks.

A great location

It will cover around 5 acres of Admiral’s Park, turning the popular town centre park into a brilliant summer beer and cider festival.

The large open space is perfect to accommodate all of the marquees comfortably, each with plenty of room to check out all of different bars and stalls, as well as a separate tent for the music.

The large fenced off area of the park will have marquees around the outside in a circle leaving a centre space for people to get to and from each tent, as well as being a perfect space to socialise and have a few drinks.

The organisers recognise the importance of maintaining Admiral’s Park throughout the event, so that when it’s over the park isn’t left in a bad state or damaged in anyway. The park has lots of landscaped gardening and natural areas so keeping that in good condition is a priority. A track way has been installed, supplied by All Weather Access, to protect the grass from damage caused by the heavy vehicles needed to set up the event.

The entire venue is also kept illuminated by floodlights (supplied by Essex-based Templant, who supply all the power to the festival), to allow drinkers to relax in the park until late in the evening. This year there is also dedicated cycle parking, which is also well illuminated – great news if you are cycling to the event.

In its 40th year, the Summer Beer and Cider Festival is set to be 5 days of good food, great music and of course plenty of drinks. The layout is the same as previous years, with ciders and perries first, some local wines, lagers, Essex breweries and then beers from the rest of the UK. Orkney Skullspitter is back too – best to have just a half though!

There is something to suit everyone you will be sure to have a nice day out with the family, or an evening of music and drinks with friends. To catch up on what has been going on with the event or to check for updates you can go to their Facebook page, or for some more details about the event and it’s history you can visit their website.

The Chelmsford Parks Marathon

Chelmsford Marathon route

Essex County Standard: The route for the first Chelmsford Marathon

The first Chelmsford Park Marathon will take place on Sunday 19th October 2014. The 26.2mile route map created by organisers at Great Baddow-based J’s Hospice was unveiled at a launch party in Chelmsford today.

This event will raise much-needed funds for The J’s Hospice as well as creating a lasting legacy for the City of Chelmsford of a successful marathon that can grow year on year, bringing visitors to the city and highlighting all that the city has to offer.

The Chelmsford Marathon will start in Central Park and then pass through Admirals Park and Tower Gardens and then go on to Hylands Park, which marks the halfway point. Runners will then return and follow the same route back to finish in Central Park.

A maximum of 2,000 runners will be able to take part in the first marathon. 650 people have already signed up.

If you wish to run the first Chelmsford Marathon, entry costs £28. Call either J’s Hospice on 01245 475474 or register online at Active Europe.

The route shown above, which is the Essex County Standard: The route for the first Chelmsford Marathon, is not very clear and seems to be shorter than the 13 miles required to make it half of the marathon route.

This is a possible route, based on distance. Note, this is not the official route. But it would make a 26 mile run. Created on WalkJogRun.net, see it here.
